Candle light flying lanterns also commonly used as Chinese Paper lanterns/ Sky Lanterns have a rich cultural heritage and are linked with numerous traditional events and festivals.
It is supposed that these sky lanterns are invented by a military general Zhuge Liang (also known as Kongming) during 3rd dynasty 220-280 AD. Initial these lanterns were used for military purpose but later became popular in festivals and celebrations.
Chinese Flying Lanterns are often released during the Lantern Festival at the end of Chinese New Year’s celebration. They are also released during the Mid-Autumn Festival also known as Moon Festival and other important life events like weddings and religious events. Before releasing Lanterns people write their prayers and wishes on it to letting go of past and a new beginning.
